What do Jeff Bezos, Martha Stewart, Vera Wang, Dwayne Johnson and Harry Styles all have in common?
They switched their career paths.
Before social media and the Internet, you would have to actively get out of your house and search for people in the field you're interested in. It would require hours and hours of tireless effort and it would be immensely difficult to perform this switch up. But with Crossingz and other apps - you can meet people just by swiping.
When I entered high school, I was certain that computer science was my career choice. I was quite good at coding and most of my teachers would ask me if I was going to continue past high school. I got all the validation I needed from parents, peers, teachers, professors, advisors, etc.
But something was missing! Passion.
While I was skilled in coding, I did not enjoy the process at all. I found it quite tedious and frankly, I dreaded having to do my projects. I needed something more expressive, creative, and more unique. Therefore, when applying to colleges - I decided to apply to the film programs for universities with minimal experience because I've had a strong passion for film ever since I was a young child. Fast forward three years later…and I am loving the film program at BU and constantly gaining a plethora of experience each semester.
However, I got here thanks to a lot of networking. Networking is one of the most important strategies to shift your career paths because the more people you know, the more options you have. It's like dating apps as the more people you connect with, the more chances you have to find the love of your life. That's why Crossingz (just like Tinder) presents you with the opportunity to connect with as many people as possible so when you decide you want to shift your career, it will be much easier.
For me, I've shifted my paths yet again as I embark on the journey of adding advertising as a major and also stepping further into the beauty industry through TikTok, Ulta and Sephora. I have been able to do so because of online networking such as LinkedIn and Instagram. Through just one message or now swipe through Crossingz, I can connect with someone and discuss working in their field.
My biggest advice for people who want to shift careers is to
1) Go For It!
2) Utilize networking whether that's through Crossingz or other apps/websites. Connections could help you land your next new job that you're passionate about!
